Hello!
I'm Katherine - an award winning artist and freelance photographer based in Sydney. I have over 15 years experience in fine art, photojournalism and editorial photography.
I have been refining my eye for photography since 2004 when I first picked up a camera and fell in love with Black and White film. I was inspired by the works of Henri Cartier-Bresson, a French photographer whose work helped establish photojournalism as an art form. He is known for creating the term 'The Decisive Moment' which refers to capturing an event that is ephemeral and spontaneous, where the image represents the essence of the event itself.
This inspiration drove me to complete a bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours in Photography at the ANU School of Art. After graduating I went into photojournalism and have worked across multiple areas of photography within the industry ever since.
Modern Day Moments is a project that falls between photojournalism and fine art, focusing on people and their life experiences. I strive to capture images where all elements of composition come together magically to portray a truthful story.
I've always been a silent observer which goes hand in hand with photography. It's all about being in the right place at the right time and anticipating key moments and reactions. I search for pockets of light that draw attention to details, I play with contrast and strive for interesting compositions of symmetry using negative space.
At the heart of my photography there is always a search for connection between me, the lens and my subject, allowing me to document powerful and truthful images.
If you feel a connection to my work please get in touch, i'd love to work with you.
